Hello everyone,
Avalanche scared the daylights out of me! He's been sleeping more, as he is abut 6.5 years old, and a bit fussier (if that is possible) about his food. In the past week, he was doing a lot more of both. He then decided he didn't want to eat. He would beg, be very interested in the food, then take it, nibble a very small amount and go back to his hay hole. I panicked. I don't keep critical care on hand and no vet any where close had some, so I soaked some pellets and added some baby food veggies (all organic) and started feeding him that slurry and giving him water. I tried enticing him with his favorite treats - pear and apple. After some slurry, he wanted me to pick him and then he would wipe his face on me neck and my shoulder...wise guy pig that he is. . I suspected a tooth issue but in almost 30 years of having pigs, I had never had one with teeth issues.
Avalanche went to see a new small pet specialist this morning. I cried as I had to drop him off - no humans allowed inside - and went home. Fortunately about an hour later I got a call from the vet, and I quote "...his teeth were all...jacked...up!" So Avalanche got a good teeth trim, along with some anti-inflammatory and an anti-biotic. I am sooooo relieved. My husband even teared up when he found out Avalanche was going to be OK...and for the first time ever, hubby actually kissed the boy on his head when he got home.
Hope all furry ones and their families are doing well.
Carol & Avalanche"No mommy you get that nasty plastic syringe away from me. I don't like that.! Here, let me wipe my wet sticky fur aaaaalll over your neck because I love you mommy"
