Hi Heather,

Pumpkin sounds adorable, how lucky you both are to have each other. I
would like to suggest to you and your mom that you get Pumpkin a pet guinea
pig. No matter how much you love and adore your pet she will spend most of
her day and nights alone. Guinea pigs are herd animals and really really
need company. They care deeply about their cagemates and miss them when
apart. Just make absolutely sure you get 2 of the same sex, try your local
Humane Society or do a search on google for Guinea pig rescue or guinea pig
adoption.

Just a quick note on a couple facts while you get to know more about GP's.
Don't use cedar chips for bedding, they are toxic over time. Use pine
bedding or the one called Carefresh, Aspen, yesterdays news, or stove
pellets. Don't feed ice berg lettuce, feed other lettuces and spinach,
limit carrots to 1 inch a day or 1 baby carrot per day. Get 2 water bottles
in case one plugs up, have hay available all the time. Don't feed mushrooms
potato skins, chocolate, meat, junk food or seeds. Just pellets and fresh
fruits and veggies. Don't get one of those big plastic balls like the ones
for hamsters. They are bad for guinea pigs.

Happy days and happy wheeks
Sandy and the Penny Giggles
