Hi.  As far as I know and what I have looked up, guinea pigs do not usually get hairballs.   It is rare to nonexistent in pigs. You may want to give fresh papayas occasionally to help with the hairballs if you are really concerned and don't want to give the malta.  
 
Has anybody here ever had an experience with a guinea pig getting a hairball?
