Hello everyone,
my name is and I'm in New Zealand (near Australia) I breed guinea pigs
I have a year old son so as I am home and a solo mother it is an awesome hobby to have.
I've been reading some of your ideas and problems and it is so nice to see how concerned you all are with your neat pets!!!
Some of you may think im nuts when I tell you how many I have
123 aprox!!
Its sounds like allot but cause I have plenty of time and I love them all it isn't hard to take care of them
they obviously don't come when called ago anything like that. But they know me and get really excited at feeding times also VERY noisy.
I don't know if anyone knows much about breeding pigs and breeds here but Ill share with you the ones I have anyways!
Rexes, Abyssinians, self blacks, self slates, tri colours and pink eyed gold and white dutches.
Oh and one flemish giant rabbit (we Rescued)
I'm by no means a vet but if anyone has any questions or needs some advice Id be happy to give it if I know it!!!!

A couple of things I will add (they may/may not be helpful)
that I have seen you guys talking about...
Loosing fur.... Sows when they have just had a litter can sometimes find it really hard, and hair loss is one way they show it. I bath the pigs in Vetadine and they have regular IVOMEC treatments on the back of the neck if they get sore as well as hair loss.
As for the question regarding a male being in with a group of sows and how likely they are to be pregnant....
WELL a sow comes into "season" or into "heat" every 16 days for 24 hours ONLY
so during that 24 Hours and only then will she accept a male!!
So its just about timing.... whether any of those sows were on their 16th day!!
In about four weeks you can tell if you gently hold her on your chest and place your thumbs under the belly and have a feel GENTLY between your fingers.
you will feel lumps bigger than poos!!!
hope some of that is useful...
Id love to talk to all of you....being in different countries and all...Is anyone here also a big time breeder???
Regards
Danielle
