Hello Slaves!
Sorry I've been away for a bit, but
as usual Life got busy. Anyways, I
figured I'd add some on the 'petstore'
topic. I personally, would not buy
from a petstore, unless like Lauren
said, you can get information about
the breeder (and it's legit). Lauren
hit it right on the nail: "No matter
how good the care your local pet store
gives to their animals, please don't
buy from them if you can not identify
their breeder. It's that simple."
Now, I know many Slaves are like me
and feel so Sorry for those poor piggies
cooped up in small cages at PetsMart, etc.
But, I try to stay Strong and perform
my Piggie Patrol duties and leave.
My first 3 piggies were petstore piggies.
Piggie #1 was from a petstore called Ma-Ru
Pets and if I was going to buy a petstore pig
today, I would buy from them. They are a small
family run business and they get their piggies
from legitimate sources (and they are more
than happy to give you all the info). Also,
they take Excellent care of their Exotics.
I rarely go on Piggie Patrol there because
they always get an A+.
Piggie #2 was from PetsMart...BIG MISTAKE.
I got him Sick and he remained sick for the
most part. He was a Sweetie though. He lived
a fairly short life.
Piggie #3 was from Pet Pandamonium, another
petstore in my area. Ya'll know this Pig:
Brownie Bear. Well, although she looked
Healthy as a Ham (no pun intended--ha ha!)
when I brought her home as a piggie baby,
she has problems with bladder sludge. Now,
I don't know anything about where she came
from or whether she was in-bred, or whatever.
So, it's a Mystery. But, I will say this.
She is the first BITING (and I don't mean a
nibble here or a nibble there) Guinea Pig I've
ever dealt with. Which tells me that under all
that Cuteness--there is something Wrong.
She suffers with bladder sludge and crystals
and has had bladder stone surgery too. So,
she is the LAST petstore piggie I've ever get.
Too much Bad Luck for me, ya know.
Now, Piggie #4 is my newest piggie and ya'll
know this pig too: Butterscotch. Daddy Slave
and I rescued him from the Met. G-Pig Rescue
(in the Northern Va. area) and we Love him to
death. No problems yet and hopefully, he'll
benefit from B-Bear's quarterly visits to the
Vet (I plan to bring him along for a check-up
too). If anything, he'll at least be a well-groomed
piggie. :-)
Well, I gotta run! Have a GREAT Wheeeeeeekend!!!
Love 'n Wheeeeeeeeeeeeps,
Leah...Slave to BBear & B'scotch :-)
