[Gpdd] CARE: Moving to Cornwall

Hi all,

A couple of you may remember my post of a few weeks back about moving to Cornwall and the difficulty I was having in finding somewhere to rent with my pets (guinea pigs and one houserabbit).

Before I took the job in Cornwall I made sure I had contingency arrangements in place, should the worst happen and I had to move without my pets.

By a big stroke of luck, I found an advert on the internet for a room to let in a farmhouse near Redruth. The family there already have guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, as well as three cats and six dogs, not to mention all the livestock (geese, cows and horses). They were more than happy to have my pets as well as myself, and I made a special 500-mile trip to Redruth last weekend to check the place out, resulting in my taking the room ready for November.

The place has the added advantage of being near a disused tram line which will provide me with an offroad 8-mile cycle to Truro, where I will be working, so I will not need to drive either.

This does mean my pets will be confined to the one room rather than the entire house they rampage around at the moment, but it is a large room. My pets will have to be kept apart from the native pets, even after the usual quarantine period, because their pigs are all sows and mine are boars, and my rabbit is not known for her tolerance of other animals. The dogs are all kept downstairs in their own room when they are not out "working", and the cats are mostly geriatric. Hopefully, this will all work out fine until I sell my house in Oxfordshire and find somewhere to buy in Cornwall.

Milton
