Lisa,
Thanks for your response. I was wondering if it was pain or simply Guinea having a frolic. I've had pigs for about 10 years now as an adult as well as having them when I was very young. As an adult, I've had a couple of health problems with my pigs -- one 7 year old adopted female with a breast tumor which was operated on and the operation gave her good quality of life for an extra year, an adopted female with tooth problems, and an unfortunate pet store pig with severe vitamin C deficiency. But I've never had anything like what my sister described with her pig Guinea, who is a real lap pig. She had never seen him so rambunctious before and was worried. I, too, wondered at the vet's exoctics knowledge, since the vet told my sister that Guinea, at four, was old for a piggie and he was unlikely to live much longer, while my experience says 4 is piggie middle age. The clinic treats exotics, and the admittedly young exotics vet has a guinea pig herself as a pet. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I agree that the symptoms of pain you described are what I have seen with my piggies but figured it didn't hurt to ask. I have a lot more experience with chinchillas than guinea pigs.
Jeanine
