This is really for the more inexperienced guinea pig owners. I know there
have been several questions in the past about fasting a pig before surgery
(which you're NOT supposed to do).

I have my pig going in for a cyst removal tomorrow (please keep her in your
thoughts). I just received a voice message from the vet's office that told
me to take her food away tonight and not give her anything in the morning.
Well, I know better and a little red flag went up. I called them back and
confirmed that I am NOT supposed to take her food away. The receptionist
apologized profusely.

I think there was a small communication problem in the office. Her species
was not written down on whatever they were making phone calls from so they
just assumed she was a dog or cat.

I guess the moral here is that the health of our pets is always primarily
our responsibility. If you are unsure of what your vet or their staff is
telling you, question them until you are satisfied.

On another note, I have a fare amount of experience with this vet and the
office staff. I believe this was one of those things that happens from time
to time because people are not perfect. I do trust this vet to keep my
guinea pigs health (and my feelings) at heart.

Piggy kisses,
Maren, Rosie, and Charlie
