Donna- I just learned of a new trick last night when
  I visited some friends that have raised cavies for
  years. Garlic oil.  She draws it out of a capsule
  with a needle in a syringe, then puts it into whatever
  you are feeding. Or by itself, but orally, not with
  the needle.
  You might try that with the boy - let us know if
  it helps any. They said it perks them right up
  and makes them start eating.
  We'll keep all fingers and paws crossed!
