[Gpdd] tumor and Rachel

Dear Rachel

I am so sorry to hear about Roxie. I am sure if you ask your vet, he/she
will explain why she and Phera can't share the same quarters at the moment.

With regard to syringing medication, I have had to do so with one of my pigs
and I did this by crushing the tablet to a powder with the back of a spoon,
and then adding some mashed banana to it. That made it much easier to
syringe in -- and probably a lot more tasty! BUT do check with your vet
that it is okay to crush the tablets up, as some are what they call
'enteric-coated', which means they mustn't be crushed up, but remain whole.

With regard to fees, many vets these days will let you pay for their
services in instalments, to help spread the costs, so please do ask them
about that. That may then mean you can look at other options (such as a
biopsy of the lump) to help Roxie. If you are on a low income, there may
also be schemes run by animal organisations that can help you, so PLEASE do
ask your vets about this (and check on the internet of the websites of such
animal organisations), as some can help pay a good percentage of your vet
bills (if not all).

If you are in the UK, then organisations such as the RSPCA and the PDSA can
give you vouchers towards such payments.

I hope the above helps and that Roxie is better very soon.

Kind regards

Carole

Subject: [Gpdd] tumor

Hello,
I have not written in a while. I have 2 piggies, Phera and
Roxie. They will be three years old in a month. I went to put Roxie
in her cage after she was playing on the floor and noticed a
strawberry looking object attached to her rear end. I was scared and
rushed her to the vet (who specializes in exotic
animals). Apparently, she pushed a tumor out that had been attached
to her uterus. She has to be separated from Phera and takes 2
medicines. It is such an ordeal to get them into her with the
syringe. Poor Phera, whose cage is up against Roxie's
carrier, calls out to her.
Does anyone know why they can't be together?
Also, I am feeling guilty that I did not pay to get the tumor tested
to see if it is malignant or not. The surgery, etc. was close to
$400.00 and I just could not afford the tests. I still can get it
tested, do you think that I should? I don't want to be a bad mommy.
love,
Rachel
