As I've mentioned before, I get a newsletter from the ASPCA
(no doubt connected to the dog rescue earlier this spring),
and this week has a timely mention about summer safety
tips for pets. We may not be playing in the backyard with
our pigs, but some may be! (and there may be one or two
hiding a dog in the closet!). I'll give a link to the website
if anyone cares to read their article, plus just a few of their notes.

"...nothing beats lounging in the backyard ...with friends and family
-including the four-legged members of the household. ..some
festive foods and products can be potentially hazardous to your pets.
  * Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product not labeled
specifically for use on animals. The misuse of insect repellent that
contains DEET can lead to neurological problems.
* Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach.
  * Keep your pets on their normal diet. ...foods such as onions,
chocolate, coffee, avocado, grapes and raisins, salt and yeast
dough can all be potentially toxic to companion animals.
* Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets... keep
your little guys safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and
  escape-proof area at home.
For more tips visit ASPCA online.
Also- I enjoyed the cat rescue story - "ZEPPELIN's Landing"
-maybe someone else would have a story to submit.
But I think we can all think of somepig or other to nominate
for their Annual Awards (like, Tom & Huck as Firefighters
of the Year!). the form is on their website.

(-preparing to launch a boat to head out to a
cavy show this weekend! we don't mind all
this rain too much - it makes the clovers grow and
keeps the temperature down a bit!)
