Hi all,
My sister did a great job posting our pigtures (jan the boar is on soem of them, he's the brown sheltie. i still love seeing him having fun). But i have some extra comments.
Whatever toys you use, check their safety. Are there any bits they would eat, although its not meant for it? Any sharp bits? Think about this. The piggybbq is fun but this needs supervision and if you use a pin, its better to finish with a cork (from a wine bottle), unlike we did (we use a bbq pin but you can also use a knittingneedle).
A girl i know uses old childrens toys for her pigs. she goes to flea markets and tries to find stuff. (my poor friends with children suffer from this ;-), when i play with their kids i sometimes cry out "ooooh this would be great for my guinea pigs!!")
Most of our toys are home made, our pigs like playing but tend to get bored with it. Incorporating food with the toys always helps. I only get the toys out during floortime (this way it stays special) but their houses baskets etc they can keep, it think i change whatever they have every few weeks. I love the sound of my pigs make while checking out a 'new cage'.
Btw i also love to play hide and seek, i have a lot of little plastic cups and i put a veggy in every one of them and then hide them through the living room. It takes a few times for them to catch on. But somewhere they get that a blue cup means food. (i did this saturday for the first time with igor and it was really long ago for my girls so i dont think they remember , they emtied one cup and then laid down for a nap. when i did it again on sunday annd by then they had worked out the secret and were running through the living room searching for cups. once they get good at it (like clever guiny did when she used to live with me) i make it harder by placing the cups in harder to reach positions and places.
My pigs agree that cardboard is the best toy ever. they love deconstructing it, especially when its filled with hay. when you use cardboard, try to use the kind that doesnt have a lot of ink or colorings in or on it. btw, i didnt use any staples or tape when i built the castle. I just made it so that you could slide the different parts into each other.

Currently igor is researching different toys for his friends from a dutch guinea pig diary ( http://www.caviaposterholt.nl/dagboek-van-een-caviabende/eindhoven-13-oktober-2007-3 this is his evaluation of hammocks) once we're finished with the calendar me and my sister would like to do something similar for the digest.

Grtz
Janneke
