Hi Suzy,

DON'T PANIC!!! This is not as daunting as it may appear!

First the biology - all piggies, boars and sows, produce two kinds of poo, the ones that we clean up every day and some smaller, softer ones called caecal pellets, which we hardly ever see as the piggy takes them and reingests them as they contain an essential protein.

As boars age, the anal muscles sometimes become weaker and these softer poos can form a lump in the peri-anal sac, although they can still pass the normal ones. If this happens, when the boar is picked up, the overfull sac can be seen and some of the normal poos fall out.

I have cared for many Piggyfriend boars and have only had a very small number who became impacted. I will not deny that cleaning out an impaction is smelly but I consider this small price to pay for all the years of joy that I have received from my boars.

I have only ever encountered this in elderly boars, although I know that it can occasionally happen with a younger one. Rowan was 7 before it happened to him, Rolo was 6....more recently Truffle was about 5.

I check out my boars' nether regions when they have their shampoo. It doesn't take long and they must feel nicer after it it is over.

I would imagine that this can still occur in wild guinea pig relatives but without a slave's care, they would die of the impaction or, possibly, due to predation, they would not live to the great age that some piggies in captivity can achieve. ( Just my opinion - someone may know better ).

Don't worry Rocky and Cocoa, this may never happen to you but if it does, your slave only has to ask for details about how to deal with this intimate procedure. This can be provided by private email if you don't wish your secrets divulged for everypig to read.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
