[Gpdd] HEALTH Mites

Hello,

I'm writing concerning the member who wrote that they were having trouble with mites. My pig Dolly had some problems a short while back. I read on Peter Gurney's past pages to give Neem oil for the condition. You can get Neem oil at the health food store. I rubbed some of the oil on the trouble spot and left it on overnight. You can then wash it out. It seemed to do the trick. She's not biting the spot anymore and her hair has grown back. Neem oil is a natural pesticide. Hope that helps!

  Laura

Hi to my shock and horror my piggies have mites. I dont know how they got them or where from. I have had quite a lot of pigs for the last 6 years and never had this problem before. Poor Misty is the worse i noticed a small bald patch that she was biting at and it was very red. So i took her straight to the vet. It was mites so they gave me the drops they have on there neck to be repeated in 2 weeks. When i came home from work today i was shocked the bald patch was huge and all weepy and bloody. I bathed it with salt water and she has some antibiotics. I dont no what else to do. I thought about cutting a sock up and put it round her middle to stop her scratching. Am i doing all i can or has anyone any ideas please,
Thankyou Carole and poor very sore misty

Hi All,

I've been a very bad slave, my little herd is very unhappy with me, so i'll try to make amends. I'm currently moving from the south of the netherlands to amsterdam (yeah!! finally, hopefully, a city that sounds slightly familiar to you guys). I've been sorting out all my stuff, while being very busy at my job etc.etc...

Btw, catching up on the digest is like an emotional rollercoaster, one moment i'm laughing about duke's birthdaystories, then i'm almost in tears because a friend went to the bridge. My heart goes out to all of you..

@kacee; we're keeping paws crossed for barnee!
@rocky and cocoa's; Happy birthday! Especially from Igor
@Fugly; happy adoption day! Again especially from Igor
@glynis; thank you so much for hosting dukes birthdayparty, my herd arrived a while ago. They were well taken care of, suus even got her wheight back up to LAPS standards.

I'll send an extra email in a minute about the calendar.

Valentine's day; my herd is extra upset with me because i forgot to send their cards. They are not talking to me right now.. So..here we go..i sincerely apologize...

Hi All,

I'm afraid my new years resultions didnt hold up like they should, but there's no time like the present.
Suus wants to interview the following piggies or their slaves (e.g. if the pig went to the bridge), if any of you feel like it, please send a little story about yourself to the digest. Its not compulsory, just for fun ;-)

- Second part of Januari ( http://picasaweb.google.com/GuinyGirl/KalenderTest/photo#5138395793225650994 )
Dear Guinness (master of Beth) Were you celebrating your birthday or someone else's? You have a very cute nose.
Hi Gordon (master of Audrey), thats a very nice couch you're sitting on, boy i'm jealous. that lettuce sure does look yummie.

- First part of Februari ( http://picasaweb.google.com/GuinyGirl/KalenderTest/photo#5138395844765258610 )
Ah.. these are two GPDD pigsonalities. Duke and the Lady Bug. Ofcourse the two of you are very well known. There is a reason why we made our slave use your pigtures for valentines day.. How did you guys meet? Duke, is spinach your favorite food? Lady bug, what kind of food do you like best? Tell us your secrets about how you have trained your slave soo well.

- Second part of januari ( http://picasaweb.google.com/GuinyGirl/KalenderTest/photo#5138395831880356706 )
Mr P! aka Pumkin. I just looove the way you talk. It's so manly. Tell us something about yourself, what are your hobbies?
Sailor Willie. How did you get your name? Sailor willie is very unusual. My slave tells me that you were in a cute sailorsuit on the pet of the day website. Was that before or after you got your name?

All,

A few wheeks ago, over 100 animals (87 guinea pigs) were seized from this
woman's house in Syosset NY. The animals were turned over to the SPCA and
are now at the Oyster Bay town shelter. There are over 50 left. Currently
they are available for fostering with adoption to occur after the case is
closed. I went down there and rescued one. She's Georgeous!! and healthy
(according to my vet). There are tons of peruvians, crested, abyssineans,
short hairs. Many of the females are pregnant. If anyone is interested in
taking any of these, please please contact the Oyster Bay Town Shelter.

Thanks,

Sandi

It's been a while since I posted and my piggies are quiet upset with me.
Well, a few wheeks ago I heard about a lady in Syosset New York that had
over 87 Guinea Pigs seized from her house. I've been in contact with them
and Friday February 15th, we went to the Oyster Bay Town Shelter and picked
one up. She's a beautiful Peruvvian Goddess..Her name is Marilyn Monroe.
She's about a year old, white and brown. She's tagged in her ear with a
metal clip and I've been told that she was a "show pig". I'm currently
fostering her until the case is closed but once closed, she's mine : ). She
was very timid at first but is starting to come out of her shell. She's a
beauty. I don't have much experience with Peruvvians. All of mine have
been short haired or abysinnean. I will be creating a website so you guys
can see my beauty.

Carole,

I hope that your vet gave you Ivermectin to kill off those mites. If Misty lives with another piggy, she should be treated as well. I treat all of my herd with Ivermectin, orally, as a preventative every three months so no pig ever gets a mite problem and new piggies are treated on arrival.

Ivermectin does not kill off the mite eggs so a second or third dose will be necessary to wipe out the cycle.

Have a look at http://www.guinealynx.com/mites.html As well as lots of info, there is a pigture at the end showing a piggy wearing a wrap to prevent self mutilation.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.

Suze,

What a sad story about poor little Will. I hate to see a piggy on its own and always pair up my boars ( except for Sam, who doesn't want to share with anypig but likes a chat through the wire with his next door neighbours, Roscoe and Gulliver ).

My solution would be to call round every rescuer that I know to see if they had a baby boar needing a home. As Will got on with the baby that sadly did not survive, there is every chance that he will enjoy a little friend. You do not want Will to be bullied by Feef and Rocky so, if you do not want to get another piggy, hopefuly he will respond to lots of love, treats and cuddles.

Give him a hug from us all,

Penny and the Piggyfriends.

I'm so sory to hear about Gizmo. It sounds like you 2 fought a good battle
togethre and that in the end, you had to do what you knew was best for him,
not you. That takes so much courage as we all know. We wish you healing of
the mind and heart and know that Gizmo is a happy little guy now and feeling
oh so much bbetter. :)
