[Gpdd] Health: Blood in urine

Hi --
I know of 2 causes tho there may well be more. One is a UTI (urinary
tract infection) and the other is the dreaded bladder stone. An xray can tell the
difference but a really good vet may have a good sense of which is which
without an xray. I lost one piggy because of a vet who made the wrong call. The
dreaded "then came the weekend" scenario that sometimes keeps one from getting
to another vet in time, when symptoms intensify, etc., became the deciding
factor. Surgery prognosis wasn't good by the time we saw 2nd vet. The second piggy
I helped to the bridge because of a bladder stone was a senior pig, in
definite pain, and the outcome of surgery didn't look good.
Surgery is also not without risks. Many a pig is saved and many a pig is
lost. For surgery, have a first rate exotics vet with lots of guinea pig
experience.
     Don't let me scare you.
An antibiotic and perhaps some pain medication may be all you'll need.

My very best to you,
Alge and Charlie, Jolly Rodent
