Blindness is no big deal in a GP.  Their sense of sight is not really that great to begin with.  My little one has been blind in both eyes for three years and it does not get in her way.  Her senses of smell and hearing are how she gets around.
 
It sounds like a cataract but you may want to have it checked out anyway.  Other than that, just relax.  Your little one will do just fine.
