Dear Joanie and the Guinea Pig Family
I was discussing Baby Truffles, Blossom, and Sparkle's case today with
Dr. Bonsack, the vet that I volunteer for and see all of his cavy
patients. The first thing he said to me was that he thought maybe the
water they were drinking or that their vegetables were being washed in
was contaminated. I had written Corrine on December 3rd about Bio-Sponge
paste which I had read about on Guinea Lynx.
http://www.guinealynx.info/diarrhea.html
I have since done some veterinary medical literature searching on the
topic of Bio-sponge paste and of all things it was developed in cavies.
It is available on-line and in feed stores. I agree with you that the
fact that all three cavies are ill and have/had diarrhea that it may of
been started from contaminated water. Bio-sponge is effective in
absorbing the toxins caused by foreign bacteria and viruses and reducing
intestinal inflammation. But any piggy that is not eating is also in
pain and should be on Rimadyl. Bio-sponge can be used with antibiotics
and rimadyl. Have any of the members ever used Bio-sponge paste? It was
developed for horses but is used in dog and cats and cavies.

Cheers,

Ann and the Rescued Piggys of Piggyville, Tampa Florida USA.
