Corrine, I am so very sorry about your tragic loss of Snowy Bear. I think all of us on the Digest have had the experience of trying very hard to save an animal without success. My heart aches for you.

 

Very often I have wished that the vets would just tell us that an animal is not a good candidate for surgery and that we should consider euthanasia. This spring, when our cat had an encounter with a fox, I wish they had just put him down as we planned instead of trying all kinds of things that gave him another day of suffering. The same thing happened with a friend's guinea pig last month, with the clinic running up a huge vet bill on a pet who was clearly dying and did not make it through the day. It is so hard for us pet owners who are in a vulnerable emotional state. Corrine, please do not feel alone. There are so many of us who share your grief today. --Kathy S in CO
