[Gpdd] Health: Maybe It's Audrey???

Hi all,

Thanks everyone for all the input and good wishes; it all helps!

I'm still mystified about the strange case of the NON-disappearing pellets (since that is the only "symptom" I can really identify). Doris & Audrey have definitely recovered from their traumatic morning at the vet's and are back to their usual selves, demanding veggies, munching on hay and offering extensive "constructive criticism" of my piggie care skills. In fact the only sign of anything amiss is that they are hardly eating any pellets.

It doesn't seem as if eliminating lettuce has had any effect. Now I'm wondering about their much-beloved "flakes" --- for some time now, I've been giving them a pinch of mixed oatmeal and barley flakes on top of their pellets. It really is just a pinch, not even a teaspoonful between the two dishes: they LOVE these and run to their bowls when I put them down to munch up the flakes right away.

My other thought is that, now that Doris has been so thoroughly evaluated from top to bottom, is it possible it's Audrey who's "off"? Audrey came along to the vet on Tuesday for moral support, but she didn't get tested for anything, mainly because (KNOCK ON WOOD) nothing has *ever* been wrong with Audrey. Doris has had UTIs, sludge, molar spurs, etc.etc. while Audrey has always been in the pink of health. Since they live together, it's sometimes very difficult to tell who is eating or not eating what: I do watch to make sure they are both digging into their salad plates to start with, but I don't usually stay to watch them eat everything. Maybe this time it's Audrey???

My other question is --- can someone tell me what a guinea pig suffering from gas would look like? I know the symptoms with a bunny (not eating, hunched posture or pressing belly to the floor, shifting position, obviously uncomfortable), but neither Doris nor Audrey was exhibiting anything like that and I want to make sure I'm not missing the signs. The vet was sure she saw an unusual amount of gas in Doris' tummy on the x-ray and yet Doris, aside from being quite subdued when she got home after all the poking and prodding, never seemed to be uncomfortable and certainly was not passing up any food. THANKS IN ADVANCE and sorry for all the long meandering posts....

                                Pat
(with Doris & Audrey, and little Olivia)
