Dear Joanie A Change in romaine shouldn't produce this result. It may be
her teeth including back molars so they need to be checked. Carrots are
harder to eat than other foods so may be the first food to be refused if her
mouth hurts. Also Have him check for fungus in the mouth. One way is if
there are whitish or cheesy deposits in her mouths or throat, there can be
an odor, that is treated with Daktarin gel which is an artificially flavored
2% miconazole gel meant for oral use. If fungus is in the mouth it can
easily become systemic needing different meds, she could develop diarrhea so
watch for that.

But before all this why not get some new carrots an try those, maybe the old
ones got older. Try shaving them with a potato peeler really thin, if she
can eat them that way it points toward the teeth, also she if she tries to
eat them but cant or they fall out that point towards teeth. You seem to
find that here approach to food is changing a bit so keep her weight every
day and stock the Critter B Better or Critical care in case you need it.

I know your vets are good but they don’t need to sedate her to see molars
and they do need the bucal separators with the right sized pads. With the
right equipment it’s a fast exam. Good luck Sandy and Sammy
