Hi Chris:About Charlie's "lump".  Can it be an enlarged lymph node?Piggies have 12 lymph nodes, per the vet.Last year, my Sassy (almost 4 years old) had one that burst.I panicked and ran to my vet.  Not being piggy savvy, she wasafraid to touch it, said to keep the pig away from everyone elseand seek another opinion.
I went to a piggy specialist recommended by my friend who hada young guinea pig with a lump.  The lumps are under the jaw,on the neck and can vary in size.  She had it removed successfully.
My Sassy had two of them and the specialist said it is a dangeroussurgery.  He told me that he never likes to operate on guinea pigsbut if I want to save her life, I should consider the surgery.  It wasgoing to be $1,200 and he said she had a 50/50 chance of
surviving. With that info, I took my chances.  I am so glad I did! Both "lumps" went away on their own!  She is absolutely fine now.She is almost 5.Then, a few months ago, my other girl, Ellie had one very large lump.I left her alone and within no time, it was gone. This is a natural way for the body to fight off an infection of some kind.Do you think this is what your Charlie could have? From what I understand, the nodes can swell for anything as simpleas a sore throat.  They can be small like peas or giant like peaches.I would not rush into surgery and would suggest you seek a secondopinion if your Charlie appears to be getting worse.Good luck,Joanne, Baci, Sweetie, Sassy, Ellie
