Dear Cindy, Ethan, and Eddie,

Thank you for welcoming us back from France. I must admit I am both
happy and sad to return to the USA. I think most of the GPDD family
knows that I was a pharmaceutical scientist and medical device inventor
before I retired to practice rodentology full time. Since I am married
to a British citizen we spend a lot of time in Europe. The sad part
about coming home to the USA is that the health care we provide for our
citizens and for animals is so very far below the standards that UK,
Europeans and even Canadians enjoy. (I went to college in Canada). The
UK and France and most of Europe provided universal health care to
everyone almost immediately after WW II. All of these countries had been
bombed into the ground. Their people were surviving on ration stamps and
Spam and yet their politicians with a stroke of a pen brought about
universal health care. No it is not inexpensive or perfect but it is far
less expensive than what we pay for health care here in the USA. They
also have far stronger laws regarding animal welfare be it for a piggy
or a horse. I am happy to be home and to see my friends and the many
people who rely on me to help them with their guinea pigs. The 5 months
I was in France I was still consulting with Dr. Danielson of Ehrlich
Animal Hospital and many private clients. I just wish my fellow citizens
would look to Canada and the UK and Europe for inspiration on how we can
provide better health care to our people and animals. We have a lot to
learn.

Cheers, Ann and the Piggys of Piggyville Tampa Florida USA
