Hi Laura,
This is just a shot in the dark, but I wonder if the cause could be related to hormones? I know, for example, sometimes when pigs are pregnant a hormonal change can cause them to sometimes lose some hair. Of course Phoebe's not pregnant, but I wonder if there could be another cause of disrupted hormones... (for ex, in ferrets they can get adrenal gland tumors, a symptom of which is hair loss around the hindquarters. But of course I'm not saying that's what it is!!! Ferrets are prone to so many illnesses it's not even funny! I just mean hair loss can be hormonally-related, since for ex the adrenal gland secretes hormones) I don't exactly know how you'd test for something like that, but perhaps you could bring it up with your vet? Hmm...
I hope you are able to figure it out! Let us know so I can write it down in my GP journal (yes, I have a GP journal, I'm such a dork)
