Hi - I am new to this message board.

I have a boar that I rescued from a shelter in June. He was kept in a barn with rabbits and in poor conditions. He had mites and a urine scald. Got him home treated him for his mites and cleaned him up. He seemed to be doing good. Eating everything and occasionally running laps in his cage.

He would make these cute grunting noises when you got close to him. Very friendly guy so I didn't think anything of it. Then last week he started making this awful hacking sound. I took him to a someone who works in a gp rescue and she looked him over and felt confident that he had pneumonia or possibly and enlarged heart or maybe a lung abcess. Either way she recommended he see a vet asap. I wasn't able to get in to see a good vet until that Sat. so she helped me and Buster by teaching me how to hand feed him and she gave me some meds to hold me over until Sat. vet appt.

Sat. - went to the vet. Took 2 chest x-rays and they showed fluid in the lungs but were not able to tell if the fluid was bacterial or viral. We were not able to get a view of his heart due to the lungs being full. He had a slight fever. Doctor prescribed Lasix, Baytril and Doxycycline along with hand feeding and pedialyte. He has lost 30 grams since Thurs. night.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had a piggy recover from anything like this before and I also would like to hear from people who have experienced this before.

Thank you
