My biggest male piggie, Scrabble, weighs in at 3.24lbs!! The smallest male,
Cannelletto, weighs just 2.19lbs, but he is not yet a year old. My biggest
female, Cannelle (yeah, you guessed it - Cannelletto's mom!) weighs slightly over
3 lbs, and the lightest female, Scarecrow, who is a fully grown adult, weighs
just 1.85lbs. They all receive the same diet and the same opportunities for
exercise - I guess that, just like people, their weights vary. I weigh all 18 of
my piggies every week, and only worry if one piggie's weight seems to drop
continuously - there are always fluctuations week to week.
It my "herd" it does seem to be the longhaired piggies that weigh the least -
I wonder whether that is typical? Unfortunately I can't say exactly what
breed my longhaired ones are - as longtime subscribers already know, all mine are
rescued "mongrels", which is why I call them my "Dolly Mixtures"! I would be
interested to hear from other multi-pig households as to whether they also find
the longhaired ones weigh the least.
I personally find the longhaired ones to have the most personality - but as
mine all originate from the same unscrupulous breeder, I think that may just be
a result of the original ancestors having particularly strong personalities.
Again, I'd be interested to hear the opinions of other slaves who serve both
longhaired and shorthaired piggies.
I'll be interested to see what weights other people post - I have always
wondered myself what average weights were - the books only ever seem to mention
the birth weights!
Condolences to the many who have recently lost piggies - my computer broke
and I have been offline a fair while - it was painful to catch up and read how
many more have crossed The Bridge.
Take care everyone
Debbie and her Dolly Mixtures
