Hi Jaimee,
I have always had salt blocks for my guinea pigs, most of them never touched 
it but my current piggies finish one off every other month or so. I think that 
they know if they need the extra minerals. It takes up so little room, I 
always have one hanging in their cage. Try to feed your piggy hard, stale bread, 
rolls, or crisp bread. That might take care of his chewing needs, and hopefully 
he'll leave the metal bars alone.
