Sidney’s mom and dad are proud to announce that our wonderful boy is six
years old today. He is an American short haired tri-colored.

This past year has been difficult for him. A week after his fifth birthday,
he developed a large abscess under his chin which had to be lanced several
times and took weeks to heal. Then he had jaw surgery that removed the last
three of his large upper and lower incisors due to infection. Now all of
his vegetables have to be cut up and his romaine lettuce has to be rolled up
and placed into his mouth. He can’t pick it up himself. If we cut the
carrots in strips, he can flip them up with his foot and pick up one strip
at a time.

Then, the fibrosis condition flared up in his right front paw again. His
foot has been operated on many times. It has been debrided down to the good
tissue with the infected tissue being removed as much as possible. At times
we seem to live at our vets, so he can check the foot once or twice a week.
We thought it was cleared up the middle of September but by the first of
December, it was swollen twice the normal size, purple, and he didn’t want
to walk on it. So---he has had it debrided again and we are putting
collasate on it every day to promote cell growth. Of course, he is also on
CIPRO and Bennebac for the entire month of January. Pododermatitis is hard
to treat.

Sidney has a special bond with his Veterinarian, Dr. DeLong. He gives him
piggy kisses on the doctor’s nose. Dr “D” says Sidney is the only pig he
allows to kiss him.

I worry so much about Sidney’s health problems, but he is a happy boy.. He
is a free range pig in our den only while we are at home. Otherwise, he is
in his cage. He is very spoiled and much loved and I am pretty sure that he
knows that he is loved. He will usually come to us when we call him. We
took him to a pet store this afternoon to choose a present. He got a NEW
WATER BOTTLE AND A second CUDDLE CUP. He likes to sleep under it.!! It is
so cute. This way he will have one to use while the other one is being
washed or he can use both at once if he wants to. He also received a
Birthday card from KRITTERS IN THE MAILBOX that was adorable. I am sorry to
ramble on and on but it was a special day.

I would like to end this by offering sincere sympathy from my husband,
LaVon, me and Sidney to anyone and everyone that has lost a piggy. There
have been far too many lately. I know “George and Ebeneezer” have been very
busy with their official welcome and list of things to make the transition
easier for those that have gone to the Rainbow Bridge lately. I have to
admit that I am in tears reading about our beloved boys and girls leaving us
all too soon. (Yes, it is always too soon.)

Regards,

Jane Uptagrafft, proud mom to Sidney
