Hi all,

I have written to her personally but I want to publicly thank Lydia for all her help with my worming efforts for Bud. She walked me through the whole procedure, including giving me the info for ordering the Ivermectin right down to the item number. She answered several questions, gave me lots of moral support and spent a lot of time typing emails, I'm sure. Over the months I've been on the Digest I have come to have tremendous respect for the knowledge and experience you all have. I have learned so much and Bud is so much better for it!!

A few weeks ago someone wrote in asking about the book Piggy Potions by Peter Gurney. At that time I had just received the copy I ordered so I couldn't comment intelligently on it. Now I've read most of it and it seems just wonderful. I feel more competent to recognize and treat simpler things and I feel like I have a reference right at hand. My question is this: Peter Gurney recommends in two of his books that I've read now to worm guinea pigs regularly every three month even if they have no symptoms. We do this with our horses so it makes sense to me but I want to know if any of you do this or think it's necessary. I just wormed Bud and it was easy so it would be no trouble to do it on a regular basis. Peter Gurney seems to say that vets aren't on the bandwagon yet on this practice but we all know that vets don't know everything there is to know about piggies. They have to know so much about so many animals and I doubt that many people are experimenting on the best medical prevention treatments for guinea pigs (except, of course, Peter Gurney). Let me know if anyone is doing this. I'm certainly willing to do it if it works! Thanks so much.

Carla and Healthy Bud
