Dear Carole

I found the following about cysts on Peter Gurney's web pages:-

CYSTS
In the main guinea pigs can develop harmless sebaceous cysts which occur
when gland openings in the skin become blocked and the contents of which
contain fatty sebaceous material. These can be easily lanced and the
material expressed out, then the cavity flushed out with hydrogen peroxide.
They are more common on the back or around the neck region of a guinea pig
but they can occur internally, particularly in the ovaries of sows. Sows can
live quite happily with these cysts providing they do not get too large.
Needless to say if these do need to be treated then it is a job for a small
animal competent vet.

There's more at:-

Hope this helps.

Carole

Subject: [Gpdd] HEALTH another cyst

Hi everyone, i wrote a couple of months ago because Sandy had a cyst on his
back it was removed and hes fine. But today i found one on shadow on her
head. Does anyone have any idea what causes them? Is it something i am
feeding them at all. I am worried about it being on her head, has anyone
else found one there before. she is fine in herself happy and eating it
seems a shame to take her to the vet knowing she will come home in pain. But
i suppose i have to. I hope someone can help me with my questions. Thankyou.
Carole
