Dear Alicia,
I'm behind on my GPDDs and picked one sort of at random, looking for
the last one I read and then I could work my way forward. Then I saw the
subject of your post and my heart just sunk to my feet. I went straight to it.

Our dear Sailor Willie is gone. I'm so very very sorry and with this
being so close to Squeakers trip to the Bridge. I daresay that the RV was waiting
there to give him a lift, with Squeakers as the first to welcome him. And of
course we know how joyful he will be at the Bridge, his body young, healthy
and strong again.

Charlie used to wheek about "dat way cool Sailor Willie." Do you
remember? Willie was his hero. Or maybe one of two heroes.

This will make for a sad holiday season for you. We lost Chester on Dec.
18th last year and it was such a loss. I was spending Christmas Eve with
family and Christmas Day was planned for just me and the piggies. Chester's gifts
remain in a box behind my bedroom door, except for the perishables which
Charlie enjoyed later on. Then in April Charlie went. Had one of my home health
aides not "surprised me" with Captain Jack a few weeks earlier I'd have been
without piggies, too. Or had I refused a "surprise pig" knowing the direction
where my health is taking me. (Hopefully to a lung transplant and not to join the
little ones at the Bridge.) That was an attempt at humor by the way, humor
of the dark hour kind.

I sit here weeping as I think of your double losses and at this time of
the year. Sailor Willie was another one of those "community piggies" who
somehow managed to belong to all of us in our hearts. Strangely he's been on my
mind a lot lately.

I cannot be tell you not to be sad or not to grieve, but always there's
the knowledge that for however short or long a time, you gave 2 piggies a very
good life. I hope that when you're ready you'll take on another one or a
pair. So many need homes, even fostering.

Our sincerest condolences and healing hugs,
Alge and the Caribbean Piggy Pirate Crew
