I should have mentioned before. If it is diabetes, you can do a preliminary check of BG yourself. Actually, now that I think about it, I ought to see what the BG of my piggies are. I have extra glucometers and lancing devices. They aren't showing any signs, and Daisy, who is 5, probably would have shown signs by now, but my two youngest are almost a year and that's about the time it showed up with Viola. All you need is a glucometer and test strips. Back when I had Viola, I tested the rest of my herd and they were all in the normal range of humans, between 80-100.

Back when I had Viola, the only glucometer I could find that required a very small sample size was Freestyle. There are a few more now. Walmart's Relion Micro also requires the same sample size as Freestyle Freedom Lite and both are quite reliable. Contour Next EZ is supposed to also be one of the most reliable, but requires a slightly larger sample size. I personally use both the Freestyle Freedom Lite and Contour Next EZ on myself (Contour Next EZ is considerably less expensive, so I use it more often). I found the best place to prick was an inch or so behind the ears, just off center ... a 28 gauge lancet was best. You can also slightly overcut a nail, but I didn't do that since I tested Viola at least once a week. She actually didn't mind the sound or feel of the lancet at all ... pretty much ignored it.
